The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Media Gateway Development Engineer to join a highly specialized team. You'll play a crucial role in the development and evolution of communication systems that bridge traditional telecommunications with modern IP networks, specifically for railway applications. This role is perfect for an engineer who thrives on the challenge of working with robust, proven technologies that form the backbone of critical infrastructure, ensuring their continued reliability and interoperability.
Your Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain media gateway software and firmware for critical communication systems.
- Implement and optimize telecommunication protocols (e.g., TDM, SS7, ISDN) and their interworking with modern IP-based protocols (e.g., SIP, VoIP).
- Work extensively within embedded Linux environments and RTOS, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architectural design, coding, testing, and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, system architects, and test teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
- Conduct thorough troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization of complex communication systems.
- Contribute to maintaining and evolving the high safety and security standards required for railway communications.
What You'll Bring
- A university degree (B.Sc./M.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven professional experience (ideally 3-5+ years) in telecommunication software development, embedded systems, or media gateway technologies.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
- Deep understanding of legacy telecommunication protocols such as TDM (E1/T1), ISDN, and SS7, as well as their interworking with modern VoIP/SIP.
- Familiarity with GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications - Railway) is a significant advantage.
- Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and/or FPGA programming for media processing is a plus.
- Solid knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, UDP).
- Experience with debugging tools and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- A meticulous, problem-solving mindset with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and fluency in English. German language skills are a plus.
