Job position and department's overview

The School of Sustainability, Governance, and Methods at Modul University Vienna (MU) is
seeking an outstanding scholar to teach and conduct research in the area of Sustainable
Development and Governance. This is a full-time, unlimited position where applicants are
prepared to work 40 hours per week. Candidates should have experience in the broader area of
Sustainable Development, Environmental/Climate Governance, Economic Geography, and
Economics. Additional experience in areas such as Environmental Policy and Governance, Climate
Economics, and Sustainability Analytics is highly appreciated.
Candidates are expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Teaching
responsibilities include subjects related to sustainability transitions, governance,
environmental/climate/energy policy, economic development/geography, economics, and
mathematics/statistics (undergraduate level) but will be aligned to the candidate's profile.
Candidates are expected to attract funding and develop a field of research related to the School's
research profile.

Your responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach courses in undergraduate and graduate programs offered at
Modul University Vienna. The teaching load for this position is 10 units/week per semester (1
unit = 45 minutes of teaching). The new colleague will be expected to further develop her/his
teaching profile in the area of Sustainable Development and Governance. The candidate is
expected to contribute to administrative and academic services and to be active in outreach
activities. Within the School, the successful candidate is invited to contribute to the School's
engagement activities.

Your profile

Desired skills and essential qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in research and teaching and possess
a comprehensive understanding of widely used concepts and methodologies of selected topics
in the area of Sustainable Development and Governance. Therefore, candidates must have a
record of, or clear potential for excellent research, third party research funding, and student
mentorship.
The successful candidate is expected to have outstanding qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree or PhD in Social Sciences, Environmental or Ecological Economics,Economic Geography, Economics, or a related field.
  • Track record of excellence in teaching.
  • Commitment to high quality teaching.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills (proficiency in German language is not required but welcome).

Further information

Remuneration
The University is offering a full-time employment with 40 working hours per week and an unlimited contract. The initial
annual gross salary is EUR 64,500 before taxes (plus approx. 30% Arbeitgeberanteil = contribution
to the social security and pension fund paid by the employer according to Austrian Law). The
University offers opportunities for additional remuneration for extra teaching and outstanding
scientific achievements.
